An Easter Prayer
Amy Parker, illus. by Alsion Edgson. Tommy Nelson, $8.99 (12p) ISBN 978-1-4003-1941-1
Parker (A Night Night Prayer) uses the seasonal symbols of spring (bunnies, chicks, eggs) to make the point that the season of new and renewed life is the time of God’s blessings. The board book’s rhyming prayer is tailor-made for read-alouds: “Thank you, God, for Easter and the brand-new life of spring!/ For sunny rays that warm the earth to turn the whole world green.” Edgson’s (Yuck! That’s Not a Monster) pastel palette makes the baby animals and their spring setting lively and soothing; a yellow chick in purple polka-dotted rain boots is especially eye-catching. The religious message is generic enough to work for a variety of Christian believers. Grandparents looking for a gift for grandchildren will be pleased. Up to age 5. (Feb.)
