The Highland Dragon’s Lady
Isabel Cooper. Sourcebooks Casablanca, $7.99 mass market (352p) ISBN 978-1-4022-8470-0
Cooper’s second Highland Dragon paranormal historical (after Legend of the Highland Dragon) brings all the drama of a gothic thriller while delivering plenty of steamy passion. Regina Talbot-Jones returns to the family country estate in Victorian-era England to take part in an investigation of the property’s supposed haunting. Colin MacAlisdair is a guest of Regina’s brother. Though both pretend to be ordinary humans, they have secrets that come to light when the ghost stories prove true. Cooper wisely reveals these secrets in the first chapter, allowing the adventure to proceed apace and the principal characters to communicate freely without dissembling. Regina and Colin are both refreshingly capable of deep feeling as well as heroic daring. Cooper clearly has a good time putting a twist on historical romance, and she invites the reader to join in on the humor, thrills, and dangers with equal pleasure. (Dec.)
