Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food: More Than 100 Delicious, Super-Fast, and Easy Recipes
Gordon Ramsay. Sterling, $24.95 (208p) ISBN 978-1-4027-9787-3
The phrase “fast food” brings to mind hamburgers, hot dogs, and maybe a greasy doughnut or two. But in this volume, Ramsay offers such recipes as broiled sardines with gremolata, or warm blood sausage and quail’s egg salad. Indeed, with his typical bullish attitude, Ramsay is not catering to the masses. He provides recipes that don’t sacrifice taste or refinement for time. To find these dishes, Ramsay draws on a range of cultures from Indian to Moroccan. These recipes are put into themed menus, like “Viva Italia!” or “Tapas Spread.” To ensure that readers optimize their time, there are tips for assembling the menu as well as the dishes. Many of the recipes are short because they rely on key flavor-packed ingredients like membrillo paste or Iberian ham—and some of those ingredients may be expensive or difficult to find for cooks without access to specialty stores. Yet despite the book’s bold title, this feels like a collection of delicious gourmet recipes that just happen to be quick. (Apr.)
