The Fight
Luke Wordley. Tyndale, $14.99 trade paper (382p) ISBN 978-1-4143-8949-3
England-based Wordley’s debut novel shows writing talent that will help him find a place in the crowded inspirational fiction market. This is a Christian Rocky set in England, with twists and surprises that draw the reader in to the action, but minor characters are underdeveloped. The ending strikes an off note, centered on one of those secondary characters. The writing is impeccable for a rookie: “He felt like a bullet in a gun.” Action and dialogue are nicely balanced to move things along. The last scene combines dialogue and a fight in an original way: a body- and soul-wrenching interplay between the fight and gospel storytelling. Wordley has written a champion novel that will stand out in a crowded ring of contenders. [em]Agent: Chip MacGregor, MacGregor Literary Agency. (May)
