Seasoned authors present a tantalizing quartet of supernatural settings and lusty romances. Ivy’s “Out of Control” prepares readers for a new series set in a world of “high-bloods” and warrior Sentinels. Angela Locke, a molecular biology genius, is caught in a confrontation between Nikolo Bartrev, a delectable lust-worthy Sentinel, and Dylan, a rogue high-blood. In Bangs’s “Ties that Bind,” Cassie fends off attackers threatening Ethan, a vampire, who drags her into a gang war. Offbeat humor and wackiness rise above a predictable story. Readers will appreciate the rich characterizations and kick-butt action of Duvall’s “In Still Darkness,” as Richart d’Alençon, a 200-year-old Guardian, woos charming Jenna McBride with warmth and passion while keeping his vampire-hunting life secret. In Jayne’s “High Stakes,” hijinks abound as fashionista vampire Nina LaShay, intent on winning a design contest, has to contend with finalists dying and flirtatious attention from a sexy photographer. Newcomers to paranormal romance will find this to be a good place to start. (May)
