An Amish Man of Ice Mountain
Kelly Long. Kensington/Zebra, $7.99 mass market (352p) ISBN 978-1-4201-3546-6
Long’s first Ice Mountain contemporary emphasizes the compassion and faith of Amish communities. Joseph King is working on a gas drilling rig in West Virginia, where he can keep an eye on his younger brother, Edward. He meets Priscilla Allen, a beautiful young waitress who has just been hired at a local inn. She and her young daughter, Hollie, are on the run from her ex-husband and don’t have anywhere to call home. Joseph offers safety and sanctuary in his Amish hometown of Ice Mountain, Penn. Priscilla and her daughter begin adopting the Amish ways, and Joseph falls deeply in love with her. As he faces the demons of his past, she begins to trust him and believe that a caring relationship is possible. Though Priscilla’s decision to adopt the Amish culture feels somewhat precipitous, engaging characters and sweet romance hold the story together. Agent: Natasha Kern, Natasha Kern Literary Agency.
