Scandal in Scotland
Karen Hawkins. Pocket, $7.99 mass market (384p) ISBN 978-1-4391-7593-4
Despite the title, the action barely leaves English soil in Hawkins's tissue-thin second Hurst Amulet Regency (after One Night in Scotland). Capt. William Hurst is set to rescue his brother, Michael, from an Egyptian sulfi by ransoming him with a valuable artifact. Before he can raise his sails, Marcail Beauchamp, the famed actress who broke his heart many years before, steals the artifact%E2%80%94and then it's stolen from her in turn, leading her to collaborate with William to retrieve it. Though Marcail and William reconnect and forgive each other sweetly, the artifact and the reason for its importance remain mysterious, and the scanty plot is slowed by an overabundance of setup for the next book.
