ABC Animals
American Museum of Natural History. Sterling, $7.95 (18p) ISBN 978-1-4549-0386-4
In this addition to the American Museum of Natural History’s series of oversize alphabet board books, 26 animals appear in photographs as they interact with large capital letters. A lime green tree frog uses the letter F as a launching pad, while a sloth dangles from the letter S. Short phrases describe characteristics of each animal: “No two giraffes have the same pattern of spots. Each giraffe is unique,” and a jellyfish “can be as small as your fingernail or as big as 100 feet long!” A lively and cheerful primer for readers just becoming familiar with both the alphabet and the animal kingdom. Ages 2–5. (Sept.)
