You Be You: Why Satisfaction and Success Are Closer Than You Think
Jamie Ivey. B&H, $22.99 (208p) ISBN 978-1-4627-4974-4
In this encouraging work, Ivey (If You Only Knew), host of The Happy Hour podcast, guides Christian women on ways to find contentment and satisfaction by embracing the gospel. “Real satisfaction, real success, comes from doing what YOU do, doing it where YOU are, and doing it in faithfulness to the God who has lovingly, strategically put YOU there,” she writes. Ivey posits that social media has intensified a society-wide lack of satisfaction, and directs readers to the Bible’s first example of discontentment as a warning against greed: Adam and Eve. She reminds readers that strength is found through Christ and that contentment doesn’t need to be based on circumstances. She warns against a “false sense of security” that often arises when things are going well, and provides examples of strong women who found passion and purpose despite adversity. Among them is LaTasha Morrison, who for years spoke out against racial justice before establishing her Be the Bridge foundation and ministry. Ivey also weaves in personal stories (a highlight being her appreciation of her grandparents’ legacy of faithfulness) that work nicely alongside her accessible scriptural lessons. Readers of Rachel Hollis should take a look. [em](Oct.)
