Animal Noises

On the heels of Animal Numbers, published in June, comes a playful rundown of animal sounds, which briskly takes readers through a day on a farm. Flintham describes each noise in jaunty rhymes (“The donkeys clip-clop through the door,/ calling out, ‘Eeyore, eeyore’ ”), but the real star of the show is the artwork—the flattened cartoon farmscapes almost vibrate, thanks to Flintham’s in-your-face color choices (purple-and-white cows moo and chew in a hot pink meadow, while two royal blue horses gallop across another spread under a white sky dotted with magenta clouds).
