Bunny and Chick

In this oversize, entertaining board book fable, speedy Bunny is dismayed to be paired with analytical Chick on “the Easter Megga Hunt,/ the best day of the year!”—in which “Garden friends will search for eggs,/ then have a party after!” Bunny “wants to win the race” and accordingly darts ahead of the competition, whereas her partner Chick “prefers to plan when there/ is something to be done” and first consults “the plans from/ last year’s Megga Hunt design.” Acknowledging the respective success of the other partner, the duo fully realizes their compatibility when they team up to save a bluebird’s teetering nest—ever- prepared Chick “speak[s] Bluebird,” and Bunny can bound up high. Textural digital illustrations by Bajet lend the story a retro feel, with cartoony, expressive animals and a muted color palette.
