Layne (Marriage on Madison Avenue) opens the Man of the Year series with a charming, fluffy political romance set in an idealized New York City occupied exclusively by the rich and powerful. Charismatic Robert Davenport, the youngest-ever N.Y.C. mayor, plans to run for governor once his term is up. When Robert’s campaign manager, Martin Tillman, suggests that he cozy up to the incumbent governor’s daughter, Adeline Blake, in an attempt to gather campaign dirt, Robert refuses. But when Martin hires Addie to plan Robert’s mayoral farewell party, Robert can’t help but grow intrigued by the former wild socialite who now runs a successful event planning business. Wary of politics because of her terrible relationship with her father, Addie reluctantly agrees to work the event, swayed by Robert’s charm. As Robert and Addie grow closer, they contend with the paparazzi that follow Robert’s every move and wrestle with how much to trust one another with political secrets, but their path forward is surprisingly smooth and drama-free.
