Quiero Ser Doctor = I Want to Be a Doctor
Dan Liebman. Firefly Books, $5.99 (24pp) ISBN 978-1-55209-473-0
PreS-Gr 1-These colorful titles feature candid photographs of friendly community helpers in different situations with accompanying texts describing what each professional is doing. In the first title, readers are introduced to pediatricians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, and EMTs. Liebman offers a very positive view of how doctors help to make people feel better, but doesn't hide the fact that some medical procedures are painful. The second title shows police officers performing their duties on horseback, on bicycles, and in airplanes. Readers also see forest rangers, coast guards, and neighborhood patrols in action. The most interesting picture of all, for many readers, will be the close-up of a police officer's tool belt. In the third book, vets work with typical domestic animals, such as cats and dogs, as well as with farm and zoo animals. Special equipment such as cattle pens and an operating table for a horse are likely to fascinate young audiences. Recommended for schools and public libraries. MOB
