This New Baby

Adapted from Jam's 1999 picture book, this board book incorporates new artwork from first-timer Johnson. "This new baby/ lies in my arms/ like summer dark/ sleeping on new grass," writes Jam, while Johnson's wispy watercolors depict a caring family member holding the child in his lap. Both the art and verse tend toward the abstract, and starry-eyed new parents, more than children, are likely to value the delicate illustrations and ephemeral imagery. Up to age 3. (Sept.)
