I Look Like This
Nick Sharratt. Candlewick Press (MA), $9.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-1-56402-016-1
A delightful duo of ``changing picture'' books, these sturdy, paper-over-board selections will more than hold up to the repeated readings that their diverting scenarios will insure. In the first book, a round-faced narrator presents a series of countenances ranging from happy--``When Daddy gives me ice cream''--to tearful--``When I bang my thumb.'' In each case a half-page flap reveals his expressive face and the statement ``I look like this.'' The similarly designed companion volume depicts a girl on a family outing at the beach. When each flap is lifted, she displays newly discovered treasures--a shell, a beach ball, a crab--and reliably exclaims, ``Look what I found!'' The full-page, suitably childlike art is crayon-bright and chock full of kid-pleasing details--in the second book, in fact, youngsters get a hint of the girl's findings before she encounters them. Ages 2-up. (Mar.)
