The Most Obedient Dog in the World
Anita Jeram. Candlewick Press (MA), $4.99 (32pp) ISBN 978-1-56402-264-6
When a steadfast canine is told to ``sit,'' he takes his orders very seriously indeed. With the sort of determination that can only be described as dogged, the faithful creature stays put, even when a hailstorm bombards him with icy pellets. Egged on by his self-appointed sidekick--a seagull--the patient pooch is sorely tempted to chase a passing cat. All ends well in this cheerful romp, however, when his master reappears and whisks him off for a day at the beach. Jeram's loose-lined pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are a jaunty accompaniment to the story's playful mix of silliness and mild suspense. Ages 3-up. (Jan.)
