This third book in the Great Hymns of Faith series continues the authors' successful format of examining the history and significance of 12 holiday hymns. The Easter hymns presented here include some obvious staples ("Christ the Lord Is Risen Today" and "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross") as well as some that have fallen into disuse, such as Fanny Crosby's "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross." The authors take turns delving into the meaning of each hymn, in some cases dissecting stanzas line by line. The book comes with a companion CD of the 12 hymns, some of which are performed quite simply and others with full choir and instrumentation. (Feb.)
