Enduring Light
Carla Kelly. Cedar Fort/Bonneville, $8.99 mass market (392p) ISBN 978-1-59955-984-1
Kelly’s Mormon historical romance, sequel to Borrowed Light, evokes the picturesque but often unforgiving Old West as a city-bred woman wins the heart of a Wyoming rancher. Julia Darling returns home to Salt Lake City after a fire destroyed the ranch where she was working as a cook. Convinced that Paul, her rancher beau, will shun her because of her burn scars, Julia is surprised when he shows up at her parents’ home. Once she is confident of his love, Julia agrees to marry him. After they return to Wyoming, Julia adapts to the life of a cattle rancher’s wife, even accompanying her new husband to cook at a cattle roundup. Julia meets every challenge with refreshing tenacity, and the newlyweds’ lively banter is endearing. Fans of Kelly’s less overtly religious historicals may be taken aback by the extensive religious content, but LDS readers will be charmed. (Jan.)
