Never Give Up: A Story About Self-Esteem

In this first title in the I’m a Great Little Kid series, a girl named Nadia helps a friend who is having difficulty learning to ride his bicycle. After watching Shaun get teased by children for his wobbly efforts, she enlists her father’s help (readers still getting the hang of bike-riding will pick up some tricks, themselves). At times, the dialogue is more instructive than natural, but Leng’s sensitive and occasionally humorous illustrations create a warm, supportive, and diverse environment (Nadia’s headscarf suggests she is Muslim, though it doesn’t factor into the plot) for this encouraging story to unfold.
