For the fabulous third Paris Nights contemporary romantic thriller (after Chase Me), Florand concocts an appealing, sizzling story that could easily have been pulled from today’s headlines. Pastry chef Lina Farah’s terrorist cousin tried to blow up her Paris restaurant—with her and her best friend, Vi, inside. She is not exactly feeling trusting, especially around handsome American strangers like Jake Adams. Jake, a Navy SEAL sniper, is likewise hesitant to get deeply involved in a relationship; he’s in France on an undercover mission with the French military, intent on taking out an Osama Bin Laden–type villain. These opposites definitely attract, and both Lina and Jake feel their resolve weaken. Florand’s lyrical prose immediately draws the reader into a world where danger mingles with hope. “If you let fear win, you always lose,” Jake counsels characters and readers alike.
