StoryWorlds: A Moment in Time
Thomas Hegbrook. 360 Degrees, $24.99 (80p) ISBN 978-1-944530-07-5
Hegbrook explores time zones in this companion to StoryWorlds: Nature, which is meant to encapsulate a single moment across the world. An unnecessarily complicated design divides the book into three sections, two bound on the left-hand side, with a third section bound on the right and sandwiched between; intended to create a circular reading experience, it doesn’t add much to the larger concept. But Hegbrook’s wordless, posterlike images, labeled by location, do a lovely job of reflecting human and animal activity: a cluster of children with backpacks walk below palm trees (presumably on their way to school) at 8 a.m. in Honolulu. Simultaneously, a window cleaner works in New York City at 2 p.m., a woman in Granada paints a castle at 6 p.m., and a leopard gecko sheds its skin in Kazakhstan’s Kyzylkum Desert at 11 p.m. Ages 7–10.
