Rosemary Reeve. Rosemary Reeve, $12.99 trade paper (300p) ISBN 978-1-980960-26-3
Set in Seattle, Reeve’s entertaining series kickoff introduces Jack Hart, an attorney employed by the firm of Piper Whatcom & Hardcastle, who has a crush on Harmony Piper, a fellow associate and granddaughter of the firm’s founder and daughter of current partner Humphrey Piper II. Jack is alarmed when the responsible Harmony disappears and a trace of blood is found in her office. The police initially discount his concern, until Humphrey turns up dead in a piece of luggage in Japan, where he was on business. That development makes Harmony, who stood to benefit financially by her father’s death and who was overheard asking him for $3 million shortly before she vanished, a person of interest. Even as Jack turns detective to find Harmony and clear her name, the body count at his law firm increases and his own life is endangered. Besides doing a nice job of conveying the atmosphere at Piper Whatcom, Reeve gives enough clues that a careful reader can anticipate correctly the surprise reveal. Fans of John Grisham’s thrillers will appreciate this one. (BookLife)
