Grade 3-6-One October evening, while walking home from the movies, B\xFAho and Lina have a frightful encounter with a wolf. The animal bites B\xFAho's hand, and that brings a whole slew of changes to the boy's appearance and behavior; he grows a layer of fine hair all over his body, his eyes turn yellow, his voice changes, he develops a keen sense of smell and, strangest of all, he finds that he is hungry all the time. Lina and a kind teacher try to help him, but time threatens to run out; the moon will be full in two days and B\xFAho's days as a normal kid are numbered. Funke's lively writing and engaging style will capture readers' interest, and her dark and moody watercolor illustrations serve well to add an element of mystery. A wonderful read-aloud, and a good choice for readers who are transitioning into chapter books. Recommended for school and public libraries, as well as bookstores.
