Bunny Party
Lena Anderson. R & S Books, $3.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-91-29-59134-7
These wordless picture books, with their focused, easy-to-follow storylines, are geared toward very young children. In Bunny Party , a child is asleep with his head on a table. He wakes up and sees a bunny who has a blue-and-white checked tablecloth with him. Next, the bunny brings two glasses, two plates, two sets of silverware and so on. When the bunny is finished, he and the child partake in a quiet meal. In Bunny Story , it is the child who brings the objects to cheer the bunny, who is first shown seated next to an empty bed, looking unhappy. The toddler brings a kitten, a puppy, a piglet, a mouse, a frog, a lamb, an owl and--finally--a baby bunny who needs to be tucked into the bed and read to. Anderson's sweet illustrations clearly relay the action; the visual repetition of each newly introduced object, such as the blue plates, is helpful. Ages 1-3. (Mar.)
