Guri y Gura: Aprenden A Nadar
Rieko Nakagawa. Ediciones Ekare, $8.99 (0pp) ISBN 978-980-257-256-4
PreS-Gr 2-A day at the beach turns into a fabulous experience for Guri and Gura. The two mice depart with their life preservers for Lighthouse Island in order to assist a giant with a small problem. He, in turn, teaches them to swim on their way back home. Readers will learn the doggy paddle and the butterfly strokes, among others, and even how to swim like a jellyfish. The final scene shows how Guri and Gura delight in the good deed they have done. Faded watercolors provide appealing images. The translated text is fine, with just one accentuation error, which is easily overlooked during the read-aloud. This book is appropriate for teaching children the benefits of helping others. Youngsters will identify with the protagonists and appreciate the message that small people can have an impact too. Recommended for school libraries and bookstores. Paul M. Kienlen, Alicia R.
