At this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, the Klopotek team is set to unveil STREAM-lite, a new and powerful purpose-built software for small- and medium-sized publishers. “STREAM-lite is powered by the same software—the end-to-end cloud-based Klopotek STREAM—that supports the world’s largest publishers,” says CEO Peter Karwowski. “It is a budget-conscious and easy-to-use solution that manages the entire life cycle of a title, allowing SMEs to focus on their core business. So do what you love—publish and distribute great content—while letting STREAM-lite and its IT tools take care of the rest in the background.”

All three STREAM-lite packages—Essentials, Standard, and Advanced with Add-ons—are aimed at bringing professional business processes to the small- or medium-sized publisher’s workspace. The Advanced Package with Add-ons, for instance, combines the processes from both the Essentials and Standard packages and is further augmented by workflow management for better visibility across departments, improved communication between stakeholders, and meeting production deadlines. Publishers can easily upgrade their STREAM-lite package to increase the number of processes required to support their business growth.

From concept to contract, rights management to publication, STREAM-lite provides complete ONIX distribution with safeguards built in to ensure quality metadata. “STREAM-lite does not require large implementation and customization, as all three packages are hosted in the Klopotek Public Cloud as preconfigured software solutions,” Karwowski says, noting that user onboarding is quick because the interface is simple and intuitive.

Klopotek will also unveil two new exclusive partnerships at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. Through its partnership with Chaptr, a leading AI company dedicated to the discovery of published books online, for instance, Klopotek is not just looking at streamlining business practices. “It is also about increasing sales in the most important part of a publisher’s business—the backlist—which is also the hardest to manage and is often not properly addressed by publishers,” says chief sales officer James Whittaker. “By putting an even stronger focus on metadata and also on AI, Klopotek is future-proofing the publishing business and addressing the most important, time-consuming, and critical element that will transform publishing: discoverability in the noisy online market without expending too much effort and cost.”

Publishers will gain access to the best AI-powered metadata optimization solution directly within the Klopotek system they are already using, says Philipp Nastaly, Chaptr cofounder and CEO. “This seamless integration simplifies the process for publishers, allowing them to optimize the discoverability of both back and front lists on major platforms such as Amazon. By leveraging advanced AI to enhance metadata quality and align it with current market trends, publishers boost visibility and drive sales—without the need for a complex new system.”

Chaptr’s Reedy tool allows publishers to either optimize metadata for individual titles or manage entire catalogs in bulk. With its advanced AI engineering, Reedy ensures the highest-quality metadata, leading to better visibility, improved discoverability, and ultimately higher sales across platforms for publishers. During a test period with some of the world’s leading publishers, Reedy’s metadata optimization resulted in a 7% sales increase. “We are continuously improving our AI engine to drive even better results, and by the end of this year, we plan to release detailed case studies showcasing Reedy’s impact,” Nastaly says.

Klopotek’s second partnership is with Libri, Germany’s leading book wholesaler. “By leveraging Libri’s flexible print-on-demand (POD) capabilities, publishers can optimize their production processes,” Whittaker says. “They can easily compare costs between traditional print and POD, particularly for small editions and reprints. Orders and print files are sent directly to Libri through Klopotek’s solutions, eliminating manual processes. Going POD allows publishers to significantly reduce inventory costs, adopt a more sustainable approach, and quickly make new titles available to distribution channels through Libri’s robust logistics network. Building on the success of our partnership with Libri, Klopotek looks forward to collaborating with additional POD providers worldwide to further enhance global publishing operations.”

Karwowski highlights the importance of controlling costs—be they related to inflation, logistics, or paper—in a challenging economic climate. “Our partnerships with Chaptr and Libri are designed to help publishers reduce costs, increase sales, and gain more operational flexibility,” he says.

Executive director Brian O’Leary of BISG, together with Klopotek and Chaptr, will deliver a keynote presentation, “Streamlined Processes and Optimized Metadata: Driving the Future of Publishing,” on Thursday, October 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Hall 4.0’s Stage 4.0. Head over to booth E32 in the same hall for more information on Klopotek.
