Constantia Constantinou has been appointed as the new executive director of the Whiting Foundation. She succeeds longtime ED Daniel Reid, who departed the organization in August.
Constantinou comes to Whiting from the library world, where she has overseen multiple large university library systems throughout her career. Most recently, she served as vice provost and director of libraries at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was dean of university libraries at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and SUNY Maritime College.
Originally hailing from Cyprus, Constantinou earned her Master of Library Science from Queens College in 1995, and went on to earn a Fulbright scholarship, during which she worked to connect the Greek and Turkish library communities of her home country. She was named a Queens College Distinguished Alumna of the Graduate School of Library Information Studies in 2014.
“I am thrilled to join the Whiting Foundation at a time when the Humanities and Literary programs are making an impact in supporting writers, editors, educators, librarians, and archivists who advance literature and promote the preservation of our shared cultural heritage,” said Constantinou in a statement. “Recognizing that irreplaceable cultural heritage is being lost around the world, I am committed to joining with our partners to save the treasures of human civilization from threats both man-made and natural.”
