January 10 will mark the launch of the Green Press Initiative's new certification program which will award book publishers who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship. The program sets minimum benchmarks for the use of environmentally responsible paper, among a range of additional environmental initiatives including improved energy efficiency.

The program has been in development for three years and was created with feedback from a diverse group of publishers, printers, paper manufacturers, and environmental organizations. Certification may be awarded at one of three tiers—Certified, Silver Certified or Gold Certified—with each tier representing a higher degree of environmental stewardship.

Publishers interested in becoming certified can read more about the certification program at www.greenpressinitiative.org/certification.

As previously announced, on January 10, Green Press Initiative and Publishers Weekly will host a webinar that will discuss the details of the certification program. Publishers and their suppliers may register for this free webinar here.
