James Patterson, Bill Clinton Announce Third Cowritten Thriller
The First Gentleman, the third thriller cowritten by James Patterson and President Bill Clinton, will be published jointly by Alfred A. Knopf and Little, Brown and Company on June 2, 2025.
The announcement was made today by Knopf EVP, publisher, and editor-in-chief Jordan Pavlin and Hachette Book Group CEO David Shelley. Pavlin and Shelley acquired North American and translation rights to the book, and Venetia Butterfield at Penguin Random House UK separately acquired U.K. and Commonwealth rights, from Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell of Williams & Connolly. The book will be jointly edited by Pavlin and Shelley. Terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
Clinton and Patterson also cowrote the 2018 novel The President Is Missing, which according to Hachette Book Group has sold 3.8 million copies worldwide, and 2021's The President's Daughter. Both were also copublished by Knopf and Little, Brown. Per a release, The First Gentleman will be "a standalone novel—not a sequel."
