Lerner Publishing Group is collaborating with the Planetary Society, helmed by science educator Bill Nye, on a new line of science books for young readers. The partnership includes 15 titles for all markets, with a focus on space science and exploration.
The brand launched on January 1 with Casting Shadows: Solar and Lunar Eclipses with the Planetary Society by the society’s chief scientist, Bruce Betts—in time for the multiple solar and lunar eclipses that will occur in 2024. And kicking off in the fall is Exploring Our Solar System with the Planetary Society, an eight-book series for children in grades two to four. Additional titles are in the works.
Founded in 1980 by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Friedman, the Planetary Society is the world’s largest space advocacy organization, with more than two million members. Nye said in a statement, “Lerner Publishing Group is the perfect home for our new Planetary Society books. Lerner’s strong connections with schools and libraries will bring an out of this world experience to new readers.”
Adam Lerner, publisher and CEO of Lerner Publishing Group, said, “Our new books will make the Planetary Society’s innovative resources and materials accessible to students across the country so they can learn about space, science, and our amazing solar system.”
