Tracy Sherrod, former v-p and editorial director at Amistad, will join Little, Brown as v-p and executive editor on May 9, and Alex Littlefield, previously executive editor at Mariner Books, will join the publisher as executive editor on May 16. Both executives will report to Little, Brown v-p and editor-in-chief Judy Clain. In addition, Little, Brown senior editor Pronoy Sarkar will now report to Littlefield.
Sherrod will acquire fiction and nonfiction by Black writers for the Little, Brown list, and joins the company after more than a decade as editorial director of Amistad, the oldest imprint in New York trade publishing devoted to the Black book market. She began her publishing career at Marie Brown Literary Services, later working as an editor at Holt and S&S, before joining the Amistad imprint at HarperCollins. Among the authors she has published are Zane, Cicely Tyson, Paul Beatty, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Kinshasha Holman Conwill.
Littlefield joins LB with plans to grow the nonfiction list. He will focus his acquisitions on idea-driven narrative nonfiction, according to the announcement, focusing on works in history, science, politics and current affairs. Before working at Mariner Books (at HarperCollins and HMH), Littlfield held editorial positions at Basic Books and Grove/Atlantic. Among the authors he’s published are U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, NSC official Fiona Hill, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, journalist Wesley Lowery, and xkcd creator Randall Munroe.
