Tyndale Lands Magnolia Network Star
Jan Long Harris, executive publisher of Tyndale’s nonfiction line, has acquired world rights in an unagented deal to Establishing Home by Jean Stoffer. The interior designer stars on The Established Home, a television series on the Magnolia Network, which is owned by former HGTV personalities Chip and Joanna Gaines. Stoffer’s book draws on her faith as well as experiences building a home design company and with childrearing. The book is slated for publication on November 1 and received an endorsement from Joanna Gaines.
Miller Reups at IVP Academic
IVP Academic’s acquiring editor Jon Boyd inked a two-book, world rights deal with Paul David Miller, professor of international affairs at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (The Religion of American Greatness). The first book in the deal, tentatively titled The Religion of American Progress, is slated for publication in 2026 and will provide a political-philosophical critique of the progressive left. The second book, Christian Democracy, is scheduled for at least two years later, and will offer a political-philosophical affirmation of our country’s Democratic government.
Worthy Takes Book on Faith and Family
Andrea Heinecke of The Bindery sold world rights to Beth Adams at Worthy for Woven: A Handbook for Jesus-Centered, Justice-Seeking, Joy-filled Families by Meredith Miller, a pastor, and parent with 20 years of experience in family ministry. The book will release in August 2023. As Christian parents reimagine their own faith and participation in church communities, they find themselves wondering what it means for their kids. Woven, according to the publisher, dispels the myth that the goal of Christian parenting is to raise obedient kids and looks at faith as "a web that can flex and grow, be broken and repaired."
WaterBrook Takes Two from Dorina Gilmore
Cynthia Ruchti of Books & Such Literary Management sold world rights to Bunmi Ishola, children’s editor at WaterBrook Multnomah, for two picture books by Dorina Gilmore, a blogger and speaker. The first picture book, Chasing God’s Glory, is for ages 4-10 and features a biracial girl who goes on a bike ride through her community with her mother and discovers “God’s glory” in the people, places, and natural world, according to Ruchti. It is slated for publication in spring 2023. Alyssa De Asis, represented by Stacey Endress at Illustration X, will illustrate. The second book in the deal, Kailani’s Gift, follows a Filipino-American girl who learns a traditional Filipino dance to surprise her grandparents on their wedding anniversary. The book aims to celebrate individual gifts and encourage readers to bless others. Lynnor Bontigao, who was represented in the deal by Caryn Wiseman of Andrea Brown Literary, will illustrate the book, which is slated for publication in spring 2024.
NavPress Goes ‘Solo’
Chris Park of DeFiore & Company sold world rights to Deborah Gonzalez at NavPress to Solo Planet by Anna Broadway, author of Sexless in the City: A Memoir of Reluctant Chastity. Slated for publication in autumn 2023, the book draws on Broadway’s travels to six continents where she met with over 325 Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians from nearly 40 countries to answer the question, “how can the church be a place where single Christians can thrive?”
