My Sister, the Meanie
Candice F. Ransom. Scholastic, $12.95 (149pp) ISBN 978-0-590-41982-6
The author of the popular Kobie series takes a look at sibling relationships, focusing on Jackie, a bratty but ennobled younger sister who is constantly overlooked in favor of her ``perfect'' older sister, Sharon. The sisters are equally to blame for the misunderstandings between them. And it is reasonably clear that the truce at the end is but a temporary moment of calmthe sisters can't solve everything at once. But there are signs of strain in attempting to turn the sisters' battle into a substantial plot, anddespite the humor in their mistakesthe antics don't add up to real sustaining action. Ages 9-13.
