Honk, Honk! Baa, Baa!

Horacek’s lovely introduction to animal noises features personable portraits of seven barnyard animals. There’s the hint of a smile penciled on the face of a handsome salmon-colored pig (“Oink, oink says the pig”), while a farm dog bounds across its spread, bushy tail wagging (“Woof, woof says the dog”). Each page is die-cut in a soft curve to be smaller than the one preceding, creating a dimensional “body” for a cow on the final page, splattered with black paint and staring wide-eyed at readers with its tongue comically lolling out of its mouth.
