Dangerous Illusions

Hannon (Hope Harbor) gets her Code of Honor romantic suspense series off to a strong start. After Trish Bailey’s husband and father die in a car crash, her only surviving family member is her mother. Lately, Trish has been having memory lapses, and when her mother dies suddenly from overdosing on medication, Trish becomes a suspect. Could she have miscounted her mother’s medication during one of her memory gaps? Her late mother’s accountant, Matt Parker, almost immediately attempts to woo her under the pretense of comforting her and also pushes to become more involved in managing Trish’s wealthy family’s philanthropic foundation. Meanwhile, the detective investigating the death of her mother, Colin Flynn, is a much more appealing romantic alternative; he has a genuine interest in finding out what happened and doesn’t believe Trish was involved. When the reason for Trish’s memory lapses comes to light and she becomes the victim of an attack, Colin’s desire to protect Trish deepens, as do his feelings for her. Outside of Trish’s outward commitment to God, faith elements are light. The suspenseful conclusion and believable romantic element will leave readers eager for the next installment. (Oct.)
