Mommy’s Little Sunflowers
Angela McAllister, illus. by Alison Edgson. Tiger Tales, $16.99 (32p) ISBN 978-1-58925-154-0
After a downy, preschool-age mouse named Scurry brings a sunflower seed home to plant for his mother, he’s dismayed when his toddler brother, Scamp, eats it. But there are plenty of wild sunflowers in a grassy meadow nearby. With the help of a friendly cow, Scurry and Scamp collect seeds from a flower and plant them—only, seeds don’t grow into flowers overnight. Happily, dressing up as sunflowers themselves makes an even better gift: “ ‘Look at you two!’ said Mommy in amazement. ‘I didn’t need to wait for sun and rain. I have two beautiful little sunflowers of my very own!’ ” The bright, springtime palette of Edgson’s acrylic paintings echo the upbeat tone of this breezy, snuggly story. Ages 3–7. (Mar.)
