Birds of the World
Olivia Cosneau, trans. from the French by Yolanda Stern Broad. Princeton Architectural Press, $7.99 paper (24p) ISBN 978-1-61689-566-2
In this addition to the My Nature Sticker Activity Book series, French illustrator Cosneau introduces more than a dozen species of birds in subtly textured digital collages. Brief descriptive paragraphs touch on the birds’ characteristics and behavior (“Emperor penguins have four layers of feathers and a thick layer of fat”) while reader-directed prompts invite children to color in parts of the images, as well as complete them using the more than 100 included stickers, which include toucan beaks, fish for pelicans to eat, and some rather cuddly looking prey for a glowering eagle owl. A short quiz and charts depicting the birds’ global habitats round out this accessible, interactive guide to some highly distinctive birds. Simultaneously available: In the Vegetable Garden. Ages 5–up. (Mar.)
