Too Many Ducklings: A Henry the Duck Adventure
Robert M. Quackenbush. Golden Books, $0 (29pp) ISBN 978-0-307-13714-2
Henry, of Henry the Duck Adventure books, is too zealous for Mama Duck and the other ducklings; he doesn't understand what she means by ""stay near so I can keep an eye on you.'' The first time he scoots off, he takes all the clean wash with him. ``Quack! Quack! Come back!'' his mother cries, and these words are heard often, as Henry walks through wet cement, wrecks a party and gets lost. When he wanders too close to the lion cage, his mother's warnings are finally comprehensible. ``Quack! Quack! I'm back!'' he yelps, headed at a good clip toward all his brothers and sisters. Like a good joke, this book will be enjoyed repeatedly. Quackenbush's ducklings are goggle-eyed with curiosity and Henry, for all his disasters, never ever looks contrite. That's childlike, and fun. Ages 3-6. (August)
