Putting on an Act

Skeeter McGee secretly reads romance novels, worships William Shakespeare and has a crush on Campbell Lancaster, the star of Queen Anne High's basketball team. To make matters worse, an old pen pal is moving to her hometown and Skeeter will have to face her own liesparticularly regarding Campbell, who she's claimed is her steady boyfriend. A comedy of errors ensues as the time of her friend's arrival draws near, with Skeeter caught in the middle of an agonizing muddle that culminates in a surprise ending. This modern-day Midsummer Night's Dream is a promising debut for its first-time author. (10-up)
