Remember to Rememb Me

When Thea first discovers that Zap, her favorite rock star, is actually her long-lost father, she isn't sure how she feels. But once the initial shock wears off, Thea's first goal is to travel to New York City and meet her famous parent. Fortunately for Thea, her devoted boyfriend has plenty of money and is more than willing to drive her across the country. Despite some minor difficulties, Thea is quickly reunited with her father. And it is here that this somewhat fantastic plot takes a turn for the worse. Zap never develops into anything more than a shadowy figure of wealth and glamor. For Thea, it seems finding her father means that she can now afford an infinite number of wild shopping sprees. Although the first half of the novel is burdened with a couple of unforgiveably one-dimensional characters, there is at least the strong promise that a likable heroine was on the brink of living out a rock 'n' roll fantasy. Unfortunately, what could have been a goofily charming daydream turns out to be a compulsive shopper's nightmare. Ages 10-up. (Nov.)
