Monkeys in Jungle
Angie Sage. Dutton Books, $9.95 (28pp) ISBN 978-0-525-44466-4
The animals are marching home through the jungle in formation. One by one, different animals break away from the group to seek specific habitats. ``There are monkeys in the jungle. There are hippos by the pool. There are tigers in the grasslands. And lions keeping cool.'' To underground burrows and treetop homes they disperse; readers are invited to search for the colorful group on a long gatefold page. On the flip side of the gatefold, the animals reveal themselves with a resounding ``BOO!'' and readers can check to see how many animals they correctly identified. The cheerful illustrations make good use of white space, with crisp-looking, slightly abtract paintings of the animals in deep pastels. This is a good selection for lap reading. Ages 2-5. (Mar.)
