Haciendo Historia: Entrevistas Con Cuatro Generales de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Cuba
. Pathfinder Press (NY), $15.95 (203pp) ISBN 978-0-87348-904-1
On April 19, 1961, Cuban forces defeated an American-backed invasion at the Playa Giron, or Bay of Pigs. In the 40 years since the attack, these events have acquired mythical proportions. One of many attempts at remembering this important defeat, this volume features interviews with four Cuban generals (Jos Ramon Fern ndez, Enrique Carreras, N stor Lopez Cuba, and Harry Villegas), three of whom were present at the Bay of Pigs. The generals present their views on issues ranging from the Cuban and Nicaraguan revolutions to the Bay of Pigs, the Vietnam War, and Cuba's involvement in Angola. It is interesting to hear the voices of career soldiers in an army we know so little about, but, unfortunately, the interviews here offer little more than Socialist rhetoric sprinkled with the usual condemnation of U.S. politics and economics. Recommended only for academic libraries with strong Cuban collections. Jos O. Diaz, Ohio State Univ. Lib., Columbus
