Nosy Crow, the award-winning children’s book publisher based in the U.K., is expanding into North America with the 2023 launch of Nosy Crow Inc.

The new company will continue to publish vivid, expertly designed, and delightfully written and illustrated books for infants through middle graders.

Nosy Crow team members John Mendelson, president; Allison Hunter, editor; Avery Cook, marketing associate; and Ally Russell, marketing manager, chatted with PW about their hopes and expectations for the new Boston-based publishing venture, and offered some sneak peaks at upcoming titles.

A Message of Love: PW Interviews Fred Small and Alison Brown

Fred Small, a singer-songwriter and former Unitarian minister, introduces one of his classic songs to a new generation via a picture book to be published by Nosy Crow in 2023.

“Everything Possible,” which Small wrote in 1983, is a lullaby that expresses unconditional love and assures listeners of their freedom to live proudly, boldly, and according to their own personal truths. The picture book adaption includes illustrations by Alison Brown and a QR code that allows readers to hear a new recording of the song.

PW spoke to Small and Brown about the origins of the song, its continued relevance, and the experience of transforming the lyrics into a picture book.

Granny Came Here on the Empire Windrush by Patrice Lawrence, illustrated by Camilla Sucre

This heart-warming and heartfelt debut picture book from multi-award-winning author Patrice Lawrence will introduce the struggles and achievements of a generation of Afro-Caribbeans who traveled across the Atlantic to call a new country home.

It is certainly cliché to say that starting a company is like running a marathon. But as I find myself in the middle of trying to do both, I really understand why. And thus, I cannot help but consider the lessons I’ve learned from both challenges.
