June 6, 2019, 1:00-1:45 p.m. ETOne of the first steps in planning a book tour is identifying the cities that make sense and then deciding what kinds of venues to reach out to. In this session, you’ll hear from Sarah Russo, Principal of Sarah Russo Public Relations, where she will discuss best practices she has learned from planning hundreds of author tours over her 20 years working with authors. From identifying the right authors (pro tip: not all authors are well suited to live events), initial contact with venues through to the day of event, you’ll learn how to select bookstores, libraries, lecture venues, book festivals, and think tanks for your authors, sketch out a schedule, book travel, and how to be a partner in promotion with the venue to get an audience in the door. Sarah will give you her best tips on how to make a tailored pitch for a venue, develop a timeline, and promote the event through local media. You’ll walk away from this session with an understanding of how to create a tour and maintain relationships with venues during the book tour process.
