In an email sent to its self-publishing clients, Books-A-Million said that effective March 1 it is shutting down its self-publishing unit, BAM! Publish.
The bookstore chain started the service, which was originally called BAM! Publishing DIY and allowed authors to create, edit, and publish their own work, in April 2015. Through BAM! Publish, self-publishers also had the opportunity to sell their books through BAM’s various channels as well as other outlets
In its email sent out earlier this week, BAM wrote that starting March 1, it “will discontinue the BAM Publish imprint and will no longer offer publishing services. All BAM Publish, users and their projects will be now be managed by FastPencil.” FastPencil is an independent company that has its own self-publishing platform and has powered BAM's self-publishing business since it launch.
BAM's plan to close the self-publishing division was first disclosed by The New Publishing Standard.
