2017 represents a landmark year for a spate of children’s books. From a decade in print for Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy City of Bones series, the 75th anniversary of the picture book classic The Little House, to the 150th birthday of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the following books for young readers have plenty to celebrate with new editions being issued throughout the year.
Frederick
By Leo Lionni (Jan. 17, Random House/Dragonfly, hardcover, $17.99, 978-0-394-81040-9).
For the 50th anniversary of Lionni’s Caldecott winner, the book is reissued with a new introduction written by Leonard S. Marcus. In addition to a hardcover reissue, Frederick, as well as two of Lionni’s picture books, Swimmy and Alexander and the Wind-up Mouse, will all be reissued in paperback editions this year as well.
The Little House on the Prairie

Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 150th birthday would have been February 7 of this year, and in celebration of that milestone, Harper is rolling out a keepsake book filled with quotes from the series, The Little House Book of Wisdom (978-0-06-247078-2), as well as reprints of three volumes from the series: The Little House on the Prairie; Farmer Boy (978-0-06-247073-7), and The Little House in the Big Woods (978-0-06-247072-0). The new editions include introductions by former First Lady Laura Bush, “Pioneer Woman” Ree Drummond, and author Patricia MacLachlan.
Farmer Duck

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the picture book, which follows a duck who does all the work on a farm.
The Mysterious Benedict Society

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

A decade after its original release, Alexie’s National Book Award-winner is being reissued from Little, Brown with new material. An introduction from Jacqueline Woodson, an interview with Alexie, and an excerpt of the forthcoming companion novel will all be included in the new edition. Alexie will tour major cities this fall to support the release.
Goosebumps 25th Anniversary Retro Set

The 25th anniversary of the bestselling horror series is marked by Scholastic with this tin boxed set, including reprints of the five bestselling volumes of the series with their original covers. Coinciding with the anniversary is the launch of a new series, SlappyWorld, featuring the recurrent character Slappy.
The Mouse and His Child

Hoban’s classic story about a wind-up mouse, who is discarded when he breaks, reaches its 50th year in print. Scholastic will reissue the book with new illustrations by award-winning artist David Small.
