Disney Publishing Worldwide has announced a 1.5 million-copy first printing for The Throne of Fire, the second book of Rick Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles. The Disney-Hyperion novel has a May 3 on-sale date and will be released simultaneously in hardcover, as an e-book, and as an audio version from Brilliance Audio. In the new installment of this three-book series, which brings Egyptian mythology to life in a contemporary setting, Carter and Sadie embark on a worldwide search for the Book of Ra, but the House of Life and the gods of chaos are determined to stop them.
The publisher is promoting The Throne of Fire with nationwide movie theater and online advertising and a sweepstakes (featured on a dedicated Web site); the winner will be featured in the third book of The Kane Chronicles and will receive signed books by Riordan.
Riordan will embark on an eight-city tour next month to support The Throne of Fire. The second installment in his The Heroes of Olympus series, The Son of Neptune, pubs in October.
Disney-Hyperion has more than 20 million copies in print in the U.S. alone of Riordan’s three children’s series, which also include Percy Jackson & the Olympians. The series have been sold into more than 35 countries.
