Kaplan Early Learning Company has acquired Gryphon House, a leading publisher of books for teachers of young children. Based in Beltsville, Md., Gryphon publishes 15 to 18 new titles annually and distributes early childhood resource titles for more than 40 publishers. Its own backlist includes about 180 titles.

Larry Rood and Leah Curry-Rood, who cofounded Gryphon in 1971, will continue to head the organization which will remain in Beltsville. The acquisition, said Matthew Marceron, executive v-p of Kaplan, “significantly strengthens our strategic priorities” to deliver books and other materials to educators and caregivers of young children.
