Abrams imprint Amulet Books has announced the publication of Jeff Kinney’s The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary: The Next Chapter, a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul—based on the ninth book in Kinney’s bestselling series. The new book will be published on May 9, as a precursor to the film’s May 19 release by 20th Century Fox.
The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary will feature exclusive set photos, storyboards, and original cartoons by Kinney, along with insight on the production process. “This first-hand account of the movie-making process through Jeff Kinney’s eyes will delight moviegoers of all ages along with the millions of readers and fans of the worldwide bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series,” Michael Jacobs, president and CEO of Abrams, said in a statement.
Amulet has also announced the limited release on March 15 of a movie tie-in edition of The Long Haul. The book will feature a half-jacket that unfolds into an official movie poster.
Launched in 2007, the Wimpy Kid series currently has more than 180 million books in print and has been translated into 53 languages.
