Black Canary: Ignite by Meg Cabot, illus. by Cara McGee. DC Zoom, $9.99; ISBN 978-1-4012-8620-0. In this fun romp, Cabot (Royal Crown) and McGee (Dodge City) give DC’s heroine, Black Canary, an origin story as a young teen.

Open Borders: The Science and Ethics of Immigration by Bryan Caplan and Zach Weinersmith. First Second, $27.99; ISBN 978-1-250-31696-7. George Mason University professor Caplan lays out his pro–open borders argument via charts, data sets, and philosophical ruminations, brought to life by webcomics artist and science buff Weinersmith’s clean, cheerful, and colorful drawings.

Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett. Knopf, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-9848-2995-5. Simone Garcia-Hampton, a black 17-year-old, is HIV-positive. And though she’s healthy, she knows how people react when they find out; bullying and other negative responses are why she left her old school.

Muslim Girls Rise by Saira Mir, illus. by Aaliya Jaleel. Salaam Reads, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5344-1888-2. This galvanizing middle grade compendium highlights an eclectic array of notable 21st-century Muslim women, among them author Ilyasah Shabazz, activist Linda Sarsour, and comedian Negin Farsad.

Girls Like Us by Randi Pink. Feiwel and Friends, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-250-15585-6. It’s 1972, and four teenage girls—three, black, in rural Georgia, and one, white, in Chicago—confront unwanted pregnancies before Roe v. Wade made abortion legal.
